In working on the Unifi internet project we ran into some NAT loopback problems when testing with our current Xfinity gateway router. I realized in order for me to test properly I need to be able to change and mess with the cable modem but didn’t want our entire internet connection to break. To do that we needed a coax and ethernet cable running from one side of the house to the other where I could plug it into a cable box by my desk. For the past two days, I have been trying to set up these cables to run to my desk.

Coming out of our cable box we had to go under a sidewalk with an electrical pipe. We ran this all the way down the side of the house then had a junction box by my desk. We then drilled a hole and ran a FISH cable through the entire pipe and pulled a string through. We tied this string off to a coax cable and ethernet cable and pulled them all the way through. We also decided to upgrade to 1Gb speed since the plan was for some reason cheaper than our old plan. So now I have fast internet directly to my desktop and I can test my own cable modem without breaking our home internet.
